Shortly, what I’ve written in the German version of this post:
Besides crawling, saving and the calculation of data we have to think also about the presentation of them. The magic keyword is “charts”.
The actual development of HTML5 and also the discussion about Flash or No-Flash brought me to a point of uncertainty: which of the actual presentation techniques I should use now? I’ve different options (one or more can be possible in future):
- static and pure images (generated by image library of server, unsure if exists everywhere)
- graphics via Google Charts API (maybe a minimal risk of data loss to Google)
- Flash charts extension generated stuff (proprietary, but nice and cool looking charts)
- HTML5 canvas charts (brave, new and modern, but actually not compatible with every browser)
- boring HTML+CSS stuff (the ugly solution, but most compatibility now)
I would really try the new stuff in HTML5, but don’t know if it’s the right choice now (for the future definitly YES! ;o).
My preferred library for HTML5 charts is RGraph (www.rgraph.net), but different solutions (for example with jQuery) are possible, too.
What should I do now? Try and risk the loss of lots of possible users? Looking forward and going the step straight to future, innovation and modern techniques?
What would you do? Please give me solutions, suggestions or simply ideas! Thank you!
In Germany (and many other countries) Google started the realtime search. Since some days, all SEO guys noticed changes in the index, this night was the final one for germany (google.com has got the realtime search some month ago). Also Google wrote about these changes (german). Some voices say, that it can be the new caffeine (infrastucure/architecture).
This development of the search index and also the fluctuation of rankings (of the last days) shows me to wait some weeks to continue with Statscraft plugin, because also the search robots (spiders/crawlers) and search engine visitors will become a main part in the new statistics plugin.
The problem here is, that you can never trust the results of the referer, also due to the last changes regarding to the individual search – now we have no real generic search index. I have to think about to implement a good solution for that.
In fact, there should be a base index, but we never see it, only the filtered results (SERPs). So I have two solutions: first one, I can try to build an image of this base or, secondly, I try to find a possibility to make a contextual based “index”. An alternative would be to give the hint, that the referring SERP maybe not show the same result the visitor has.
Hm, you see, now I have to rethink a lot of stuff.
I’m still alive and the Statscraft project, too.
Unfortunatelly I have not so much time I thought to give you a first impression of the new wordpress plugin. You have to wait and wait and wait.
My next vacations are in April and later month, but I’ve also some more projects … too many projects for one guy to handle with.
But stay tuned. I’ll give my best to present in the next month first screens and mockups and maybe a pre-alpha state of the development.
Other question is: Should I blog in english, in german or in both languages? To get a better reach and spread of information I think it is better to blog in english.
And a reminder for myself: I should set up a Twitter account for Statscraft development and notification.
Maybe it’s not the hottest shit. It’s version 1, it was created in one hour, it’s quick’n'dirty. It’s simple but meaningful.
I think it’ll work for me in the first time of plugin releases.
[DE] Hier der erste Logo-Entwurf. Schlicht und einfach, schnell gemacht und es wird für die erste Zeit wohl seinen Dienst tun.
In some days I’ll show you here the first impressions of my new WordPress plugin WP Statscraft. This plugin is founded on the base of Statpress SEOlution, the statistics plugin with focus on search engines and there spider activities.
I also look for a cool and unique logo and design for this site and the plugin.
Stay spidered and tracked. ;o)
